The mole with a difference

The naked mole (Heterocephalus glaber) is a native of East Africa. This rat is common in drier areas of East Africa(Including Kenya) and is unique in many aspects: It can live up to 30 years, live underground, does not feel pain and is resistant to cancerous tumors. With the release of this creature's genome (genetic composition), scientists hope to unravel the mysteries behind it and especially the cancer resistance aspect.
